What to do with your engagement ring

Did you know that on your wedding day, your engagement ring doesn’t actually stay on your left hand?

Traditionally, just before the ceremony begins, you move your engagement ring to your right hand. This leaves your left ring finger free for your wedding band - the ring that will sit closest to your heart.

Then, once the ceremony is over, you simply slide your engagement ring back onto your left hand, stacking it above your wedding ring.

It might seem a little counterintuitive at first - after all, the engagement ring comes first. But I once heard a wedding photographer explain it in the most beautiful way: your wedding ring is placed closest to your heart because it represents the vows you’ve just made.

And honestly, I’ve loved that sentiment ever since.
